Correcting Proxy Errors in Windows Vista
Step 1
Close all programs currently running
Begin by closing all programs that are currently running on your computer. This includes all web browsers that are open.
Step 2
Remove Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (if necessary)
To determine if you need to remove Microsoft Visual C++ from your system, follow these steps.
- Click on the Windows icon in the lower left hand side of corner of your computer and choose “Control Panel” from the menu.
- Click on “Programs” and then “Programs and Features.”
- Find “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable” in the list and click on it.
- Your system will ask you if you want to “Uninstall” the program. Choose “Yes.”
- When complete, “empty” your Recyling Bin and “Restart” your computer. Proceed to Step 3.
Step 3
Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
- Once you have completely STEP 2 from above, click on the link below to download the Microsoft C++ 2005 Redistributable.
- Save the File to your Desktop.
- Right click on the Icon for the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable that you have just downloaded and select “Run as Administrator” from the menu.
- “Restart” your computer.
Step 4
Ensure the latest Anonymizer Program Version is installed.
- Open the “Control Panel“
- Select “Windows Updates“
- Select “Check for updates” on the left hand side
- “Install” updates
Do NOT install Internet Explorer 8, if listed. - “Restart” the computer
Step 5
Restart the Anonymizer software

Correcting Proxy Errors in Windows XP
This type of proxy error indicates that you are either missing “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable” or the version you have installed is either incomplete or corrupted. Follow the steps below to correct the problem.
Step 1
Close all programs currently running
Begin by closing all programs that are currently running on your computer. This includes all web browsers that are open.
Step 2
Remove Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (if necessary)
To determine if you need to remove Microsoft Visual C++ from your system, follow these steps.
- Right click on the Anonymizer icon in the system tray on the lower left side of your computer. Choose “Exit” from the menu that appears.
- Click on the “Start” button on the lower left hand side of your computer and choose “Control Panel.”
- Click on “Add/Remove” Programs.
- Find Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable in the list (if present) and select the “Remove” option next to the program.
Step 3
Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
- “Reinstall” Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable by following this link.
- “Restart” your computer.
Step 4
Run your Windows Updates
- Open the “Control Panel“
- Select “Automatic Updates“
- Click on “Windows Update” Web site
- Select “Custom“
- Install High-Priority updates
Do NOT install Internet Explorer 8, if listed. - “Restart” the computer
Step 5
Restart the Anonymizer software
