It is vital that your computer is up to date with the latest operating system updates so that Anonymizer Universal runs properly.
Preface
You may need to disable the timeout feature in the OpenVPN Connect application. See the Troubleshooting section at the end of this guide.
The software is compatible on devices using iOS 5.0 or above.
Finding your OS Version: On most iOS Devices the version is found by going to Settings, then General, then About, and is listed under “Version.” If you have multiple devices, please use the device with the highest version OS.
Step 1
On your iOS device, install the OpenVPN Connect app from OpenVPN Technologies, via the App Store:
If you launch the OpenVPN Connect app, note that we will be using the last option (email) to import the Anonymizer Universal OpenVPN profile.
Step 2
From your Mac or Windows computer download the latest Anonymizer Universal OpenVPN profile by clicking the OpenVPN Config download link within your account home page at www.anonymizer.com, or by using the following link: AnonymizerUniversal.ovpn. Save the file to your computer.
Step 3
Send an email to your iPhone’s Mail app (by emailing yourself) and attach the Anonymizer Universal.ovpn file you download in the previous step.
Step 4
Open the resulting email in the Mail app on your iOS device, then tap the Anonymizer Universal.ovpn attachment and choose to open it using OpenVPN Connect.
Step 5
Enter your Anonymizer Universal username and password in the OpenVPN Connect app, then slide the connection switch from OFF to ON.
If you are prompted to allow OpenVPN to establish a VPN connection, accept the connection.
OpenVPN Connect will now begin connecting to the Anonymizer Universal servers.
You should be connected within a few seconds. Check your connection status by verifying that OpenVPN Connect indicates that you are connected, or by looking for the “VPN” logo at the top of your screen, next to the clock. Tap the “+” button to view the full connection details, including which OpenVPN protocol was selected by OpenVPN Connect.

- Clicking the Email button in the upper right corner of the screen
- Send the message to ts@anonymizerinc.com
