Issue:Anonymizer Universal Cannot Connect to OpenVPN in UDP Mode

Error Messages(s): Error Codes(s):
  1. The connection timed out while waiting for the OpenVPN server to reply.
  1. 1246

Resolution(s): This error is specific to UDP connections and is caused by the port 1194 being blocked, a blocked connection to AnonOpenVPN.exe or an unavailable OpenVPN server.

// Step 1

If this is the first time you have seen this error, restart the Anonymizer Universal client:

  1. Right-click the Anonymizer Universal icon in the system tray located in the lower right-hand corner by the clock.
  2. Select “Exit”
  3. Double click on the Anonymizer Universal icon on the desktop or select Anonymizer Universal from “All Programs”.
  4. Then click “Connect”.

If the error is seen as a result of AnonOpenVPN.exe being blocked, you may need to allow this program in your firewall or Security Suite.

Open your Firewall or Security Suite and select “Allow” for “AnonOpenVPN” under “Applications” or “Programs”.

// Step 3

If the error is seen as a result of port 1194 being blocked, you may need to open this port in your firewall and/ or router.

The firewall rule would need to allow outgoing connections through port 1194 to the server universal2.anonymizer.com.

This error can be resolved by switching the protocol being used by Anonymizer Universal. Use any of the options below.

// Option 1

Click on Preferences “i” in the lower right-hand corner of Anonymizer Universal. In the“Preferences” tab, expand “Advanced Connection Settings” and slide the bar to select“TCP”. Then click “Done” and “Connect.”

// Option 2

Click on Preferences “i” in the lower right-hand corner of Anonymizer Universal. In the“Preferences” tab, expand “Advanced Connection Settings” and select the radio button“L2TP/IPsec.” Then click “Done” and “Connect.”
