Using Anonymizer Nyms allows you to feel confident each time a Web site requires an email address. If you start getting “spammed” by any Web site, you can simply disable the Nym associated with that site. Learn More »
Why Would I Want to Use an Anonymous Email Account or Address? An anonymous email account that hides your true email address from spammers is the ideal thing to have when you are required to register on websites for products or services.
For example, when a website requests your email address on a site as a requirement to get services, products, or discounts, the anonymous email address you provide allows you to get what you need without the hassle of being spammed. Once you get the requested information from the website, simply turn off that anonymous email account, and your inbox will be free from unwanted spam. If, at any point, you decide you would like to receive offers from that website again, you can turn the anonymous email service back on and continue as normal.

If you need software assistance, please visit our Support Section.
- Why do I need Nyms (alias email addresses)?
- Using Nyms is a great way to protect your personal email address and keep your identity private. By creating Nyms for all online activities that require you to register your email address, you avoid the hassles of spam that can pile up in your Inbox. Whenever you start to get spam from a Web site, just turn off the Nym associated with it and your Inbox will be spam free.
- How is Nyms different than a spam filter?
- Many spam filters these days are indiscriminate and take out email messages that you want, while allowing others that you don’t all based solely on a predetermined set of rules. With Anonymizer Nyms, you decide. There’s no longer a need to constantly flag messages as spam. Once you disable a Nyms address, you no longer receive any messages sent to that address.
- Do I need Anonymizer Universal in addition to Nyms?
- Anonymizer Universal is a separate service from Nyms, and provides a different type of anonymity and privacy for Internet users. Anonymizer Universal uses an anonymous Virtual Private Network that enables all of your Internet traffic to remain secure as it passes through Anonymizer’s secure tunnel. For more information about Anonymizer Universal, please see http://www.anonymizer.com/universal.
- How does Nyms work?
-
Anonymizer Nyms servers act as a go-between to keep your real email address out of the hands of potentially malicious parties or irritating spammers.
Our Nyms Web site, nyms.net, enables you to create personalized alias email addresses every time a Web site prompts you for your email address. Our Nyms servers reroute all these alias addresses to the personal email address you choose, thus eliminating the need to constantly check different email addresses or close down email accounts because they receive too much spam. One simple click on “Disable this Nym”‚ and you will no longer receive any further messages from that address.
- How do I reply to an email sent to a Nym?
- The Nyms servers deliver your messages to your personal email address. You reply as normal, and the reply email address becomes populated with a tag routing the email through the Nyms server. This ensures the reply has your Nyms address rather than your normal email address.
- What does Nyms stand for?
- For the purposes of Anonymizer’s service, Nyms (pronounced NIHMS and a shortened form of “pseudonym,”) is an alias email name that conceals true identity by creating a new and separate email identity that can be used when Web sites prompt you for your personal email address.
- Will it get rid of the spam I currently have?
- Nyms will not help with current spam unless you provide the Web site that is spamming your Inbox with an updated Nym (email address) that you can promptly disable.
- How many Nyms addresses can I create?
- The maximum active Nyms allowed per account is 1,000.
- Can I delete a Nym completely?
- While it is possible to completely disable Nyms, it is not possible to delete them altogether. Doing so would create a security risk, as any deleted Nym could be chosen by another customer who would then mistakenly begin to receive your emails. For this reason, Nyms can only be disabled.
- Do I still need to report these emails as spam to my email provider?
- No, when you mark these emails as spam, you are actually reporting the nyms.net domain as spam. This increases the chance of Nyms then being caught in a spam filter and possibly being blocked entirely.
- Can I send or receive an attachment using Nyms?
- By logging on to our Web site, nyms.net, you can send an email message with an attachment of up to 5 MB using one of your Nyms email addresses. Replies sent to Nyms email addresses support attachments up to 2 MB.
