Step 1
If you have not downloaded the Anonymizer Universal Windows client, please download it now from your Account Home. Double click the installation file to launch the Anonymizer Universal installer.
Step 2
Select “Yes” to allow Anonymizer to make the necessary changes to your computer.
Step 3 (For Windows XP)
If your computer has not yet been updated with “Microsoft .NET Framework Client 4.0″ you will need to download and install it. Select “Next.” After the prerequisite is downloaded, Anonymizer will begin to install. This may take several minutes.
Step 4
The InstallAware Wizard will appear click “Next” to begin the installation process.
Step 5
After reading the License Agreement, check the “I accept the license agreement.” box and click “Next.”
Step 6
The next window will allow you to select your destination path; simply click “Next.”
Step 7
In this step, you can choose to install the software for “All Users” or “Just Me.” In addition, you can choose to add a shortcut to the desktop. Once you have made your selections, click “Next.”
Step 8
You are now ready to install the software. Click “Next” to continue. The installation process will begin.
Step 9
Please select “Always trust software from Anonymizer Inc.” This will install the Anonymizer Network Adapter. Note- Please allow extra time for the installation process as it installs the OpenVPN driver and the Anonymizer Universal service. This may take slightly longer than usual.
Step 10
Please select “Continue Anyway” when prompted with the Hardware Installation dialog. The system for signing drivers in Windows XP is different than that of Windows Vista and 7. Windows XP does not recognize drivers signed by companies other than Microsoft.
Step 11
Anonymizer will begin to install the OpenVPN driver.
Step 12
Select the “Run Anonymizer Universal now” box and click “Finish”.
Step 13
Select “Connect” when the Anonymizer program screen appears.
Step 14
Enter your “Username” and “Password” in their corresponding fields. Be sure to check the “Save Information” box and click “OK”.
Step 15
Anonymizer is now connecting to OpenVPN.
Step 16
The status will now read “Protected.” The anonymous IP address displayed is the Anonymizer IP address issued for that day. The Anonymizer Universal icons on your screen and in your System Tray will turn blue indicating an anonymous and secure connection.
Note: If you are having trouble connecting to Anonymizer Universal
The issue can often be resolved by changing the connection mode to “TCP”.To switch to “TCP”, access the “Advanced Connections”; menu on the Anonymizer Universal interface by selecting the “(i)” on the bottom right-hand side of the launch screen. On the “Advanced Connections” menu, slide the OpenVPN slider bar to the left, select “Done”, and then “Connect”.
